Screw cap

A screw cap is the modern way of closing a wine. This keeps tight and provides excellent protection against harmful influences from outside. For wine collectors, this closure is more flexible, as it cannot become porous and protects the contents of the bottle for years. However, it in no way prevents further ripening of the wine through additional oxygen contact, as there is always some residual oxygen in the bottle when it is closed. Especially red wines ripen to top wines after a few years even with screw cap. In addition, it is significantly cheaper to produce than the cork. Many South African winemakers like to use the screw cap for their entry-level ranges, but often continue to use the cork for the higher-quality products.
