Wynand Lategan
Born and raised in Stellenbosch, it was somehow fate for Wynand Lategan to work in the wine industry sooner or later. However, his path did not lead him directly into the vineyards. It was only after two years of military service, a graduation in journalism and four years of work as a finance journalist when he started to get more and more interested in wine and wine cultivation, aged 30. This is why he decided to enroll at the Elsenburg Agricultural College to study Wine Cultivation and Cellar Technology. After he successfully finished his studies in 2002, he started working in the French Margaux. In 2005, Wynand Lategan took over the responsibility for wine cultivation at the Lanzerac estate. His philosophy is to keep the balance between fruit, tannins, colour, alcohol content and the use of wood – the key elements for a perfect wine. After more than ten years at Lanzerac, Wynand’s focus is now on the creation of wines specific to their terroir that are refined more and more with each vintage.
