Rosé

Rosé is a pink wine made from red and blue grapes. The production process is similar to that of white wines, the berries are not allowed to rest on the mash before fermentation, or only for a short time (usually four to twelve hours). Since the process is then short, the delicate color of rosé is obtained. The strength of the contact with the berry skin also determines how strongly the rosé wine is colored. The color spectrum of a rosé wine ranges from pale pink to cherry red. The wine has the richness and alcohol content of a red wine and the freshness and fruitiness of a white wine. In South Africa, rosé is extremely popular as an accompaniment to light meals and is an ideal summer drink due to its fruitiness. The Paarl and Stellenbosch districts have recognized the quality and have been producing internationally acclaimed rosé wines for some time.
