Manual harvest

Manual harvesting is the traditional form of grape harvesting, in which each grape is harvested by hand. The grapes are separated from the shoot with a knife or scissors and transported in boxes or baskets. The advantage of this method is the accurate selection of the grapes on the vine. Therefore, in the case of a high quality or predestined wine, hand harvesting is mandatory. However, the cost of hand harvesting is quite high and the harvest is extremely laborious, but many South African wineries use it.
