Wine Stone
Wine stone is a natural crystalline deposit of potassium bitartrate that sometimes forms in wine bottles or on the bottle’s bottom. It results from the chemical reaction and crystallization of grape sugars and acids. Wine stone is harmless and does not affect the taste or quality of the wine. In South African winemaking, wine stone is often reduced by cooling or filtration but remains a natural component of many quality wines.
