Cinsault

Cinsault, also spelled Cinsaut, is a widely grown red wine variety. The grape stands for bright red wines and a strong aroma of spices. When young, the wines are exceedingly fruity. The plant needs a lot of sun and can cope well with dry climates, as the fruits are relatively small and need little liquid. Cinsault wines have elegant and fruity aromas, low acidity and soft tannins, making them ideal for rosé wines. From the mid-19th to the end of the 20th century, Cinsault was one of the most important grape varieties in South Africa. Also due to the cross with Pinot Noir to Pinotage, the grape will be an important component of wine in South Africa in the future. In addition, the grape variety is often used for various cuvées.
