The idea behind it goes back to winemaker Martin Smith’s time in the USA, where it’s common for small producers to skip traditional labels and instead spray their bottles – known as "shiners". This deliberately reduced appearance was brought back to South Africa as a symbol of independence, humility, and uncompromising quality.
The front label is more than just design – it’s a statement of honest origin.
Each vintage comes with an exclusive short story by acclaimed South African author Deon Meyer. This literary insert adds a narrative layer to every bottle. With each glass, you dive deeper – into the character of the vintage, the author’s thoughts, and the connection between craft and inspiration.
