In the glass, it displays a medium ruby hue. The bouquet reveals dark cherry, spice, earthy notes, and a touch of smoke. The palate is taut yet elegant, with a fine tannin line, juicy fruit, and a long, mineral-driven finish. This Pinot Noir is not overtly fruity or sweet but complex, savoury, and terroir-expressive.
Matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (32% new, 35% second-fill, 29% third-fill, 4% fourth-fill, exclusively François Frères), it was produced at a yield of just 2.18 tons per hectare – amounting to only 2,330 cases. A rare and sought-after Pinot Noir that truly captures its exceptional terroir.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards – Pioneering Winery in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Hamilton Russell Vineyards is one of the most renowned and southernmost wineries in Africa. Located in the picturesque Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus – meaning “Heaven on Earth” – the vineyards benefit from a cool, maritime climate shaped by fresh winds from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The year-round mild temperatures create ideal conditions for growing premium grape varieties. Particularly distinctive are the rocky, clay- and shale-rich soils, which give the wines their unmistakable terroir expression.
Tradition & Vision since 1975
The winery was founded in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell – one of the very first to recognize the region’s potential. At a time when winemaking in this area was virtually unheard of, he laid the foundation for a true success story. Since 1991, his son Anthony Hamilton Russell has passionately continued the family legacy. Today, Hamilton Russell cultivates around 175 hectares of vineyards and is internationally known for quality, precision and a strong sense of place.
Pinot Noir & Chardonnay – Distinctive, Elegant and World-Class
Hamilton Russell specializes in producing two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Both wines are deeply rooted in their origin and are now considered among the finest in South Africa, frequently awarded and globally respected. The house style is defined by finesse, structure and Burgundian elegance – a unique signature that has made Hamilton Russell a benchmark for South African wine worldwide.
