The vintage, is a designation for the year in which the grapes were harvested and the wine was processed. In addition, the year is an authoritative characteristic of a wine, in addition to the grape variety or soil conditions. The vintage reflects characteristics such as the climate in that year. In South Africa, vintage-related differences are much smaller because of the maritime climate. This allows winemakers to keep quality consistently high throughout the vintages.
