Sweet wine

Sweet wines are red or white wines in which sweetness and fullness are the decisive flavor components. A high residual sugar content is the most distinctive characteristic of a sweet wine. How high this content is depends on the winemaker. There are no guidelines, however, as sweet wine is not an official designation for a type of wine. In addition, the acidity plays a role as a second decisive taste impression. Depending on the grape variety, sweet wines can exude a variety of aromas ranging from orange, mango, and apricot to honey. South Africa in particular is known for creating numerous premium sweet wines. The most famous example is the Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia.
