Petit verdot

Petit Verdot is a red wine grape from France. When drunk young, the wine has aromas of banana and pencil shavings, and when aged, notes of violets, leather, tobacco and black pepper. During fermentation, racy acids and strong tannins emerge. The colour of the wine is particularly strong and dark. In South Africa, Petit Verdot is mostly found in cuvées. The climate at the Cape is ideal for it, as the grape usually ripens late and needs a lot of light. Both easy-drinking wines and absolute premium wines are made from this grape variety in South Africa.
