- Rich, velvety and incredibly complex
- Elegant and full-bodied with great potential
- A great and very versatile food companion
Aromas of concentrated dark fruits such as blackcurrant and cassis define the bouquet. A delicate herbal note of tea leaves adds freshness, while spicy wood nuances like sandalwood and cigar box contribute further depth and character.
On the palate, the Muratie Ansela van de Caab is structured, full-bodied, and long-lasting. A well-balanced, fresh acidity suggests that this elegant red wine will continue to develop complexity and refine itself in the bottle over at least a decade.
This exceptional red wine blend, composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%), Merlot (20%), Cabernet Franc (15%), and Petit Verdot (6%), is named after Ansela van de Caab, a woman with a remarkable story. Born into slavery at the Cape, she worked in the Company’s Gardens until she gained her freedom in 1695. That same year, Laurens Campher brought her to Muratie-along with their three children-making the estate their home.
Thanks to its bold structure and rich aromas, the Muratie Ansela van de Caab is the perfect companion for hearty dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with aged beef, lamb, or game. It also reaches its full potential alongside braised dishes. For a vegetarian option, it is an excellent match for roasted eggplant, mushroom risotto, or hearty lentil dishes. Aged cheeses enhance its complex notes, making it a versatile pairing wine.
