Asara: Fine South African wines from Stellenbosch
When entrepreneur and wine lover Markus Rahmann bought Asara in the heart of Stellenbosch in 2001, a new era began for the winery, whose tradition dates back to 1691. Over the past two decades, it has developed into a place where good food and fine South African premium wines take centre stage. On about one hundred hectares of vineyards, mainly red grape varieties are cultivated, from which excellent red wine is produced. However, those who prefer white wine will also find what they are looking for in Asara's extensive portfolio.
Asara wines for red and white wine fans
South Africa's national grape Pinotage is found in every range of the winery – from the Vineyard Collection to the Terroir and Speciality Range. In the Cape Fusion Red Blend, it is part of a Cape Blend, a red wine blend with a high Pinotage percentage. One of the flagship wines called The Bell Tower, on the other hand, is a classic red wine blend of the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Incidentally, the name The Bell Tower goes back to Asara's trademark: a bell tower, which is located on the grounds of the winery and is also part of the Asara logo. On about thirty percent of the vineyard area, Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are vinified into single-varietal white wines or blends such as the Cape White Blend of the Terroir Range.
