Quoin Rock Winery – historical roots combined with modern visions of the future

The year 2012 was to be a very special one for Quoin Rock Winery, as the Ukrainian emigrant family Gaiduk brought new splendour to the Stellenbosch winery. The restoration of the 200-hectare winery sealed the new future of Quoin Rock, which is a popular destination for wine lovers and tourists because of its noble architectural buildings and first-class South African wines. The winery's growing area stretches along the Simonsberg and is planted with grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Chardonnay or Merlot. While the wine production takes place in Stellenbosch, the small Boskloof conservation farm is located at the southern tip in the Agulhas region, which is committed to the preservation of nature and animals such as zebras and springbok.

Quoin Rock Winery combines Ukrainian culture with South African wine tradition

The two wine creations Quoin Rock and Namysto convince through passion and high quality. In addition, the design and the message behind these wines play a major role. The heart of the winery is the Quoin Rock collection, it includes the four wine creations Chardonnay, MCC, White Blend and Shiraz as well as the flagship wine, Quoin Rock Red Blend. The award-winning red wine offers complex layers of dark fruits accompanied by vanilla and oak notes and cocoa flavours. The dark design with golden applications is reminiscent of the age rings of a vine and symbolises the life of the vine from birth to perfect maturity, making for an exceptionally good Quoin Rock wine. With the Namysto wine line, the emigrant family unites Ukrainian culture with their adopted home of South Africa. The three wines Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon and Rosé are produced with a very special message. The name Namysto is reminiscent of the oldest Ukrainian pearl necklace, which was said to bring magical powers, prosperity and beauty to the wearer. In addition, the colours, the material and the number of rows of the pearl necklace were used to recognise a woman's social status. Even though today the pearl necklace is only considered as jewellery, it represents a deep symbol of the coming together of different cultures and diversity. The colours and pearls can be found on the labels of the wines and also stand for individual aromas that develop differently in each wine.

Quoin Rock - The interplay of the new wine world and the elegance of the old wine world

The "nectar of the gods" is what winemaker Schalk Oppermann deals with at the Quoin Rock winery. He obtains the building blocks for the best Quoin Rock wines from the natural balance in the vineyards, from the interplay of weather and soil, and from constant observation of the development of the vines. The rewards are particularly reflected in the Bordeaux-style grape varieties, which are produced to absolute quality. Following the simple principle that good wine can only be made from good grapes, the winemaker succeeds time and again in creating great wines. The first-class wines can be enjoyed especially in one of the specially made picnic pergolas, which are located on the Quoin Rock winery in the midst of beautiful nature.
