Red Wine

Red wine is made from red and blue grapes. It gets its color and strong flavor from the mash fermentation. In this process, the freshly harvested grapes are put directly into the fermentation tank. How light or dark this red wine will be is decided by the winemaker through the duration and temperature of the fermentation as well as the grape variety used. South African red wines are usually full-bodied, fruit-driven, full-bodied and powerful. The grape varieties Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are particularly suitable for making red wines. Several South African red wines are internationally known and respected. In addition, the maritime climate in South Africa rounds off the ideal conditions for the production of red wines. With Pinotage, South Africa also has its own red national grape with a characteristic taste.
