Mourvédre

The red grape variety Mourvédre originally comes from Spain and is better known there as Monastrell. Mourvédre wine usually has pronounced tannins and a dark colour. To make the astringency more harmonious, longer bottle ageing is often recommended. The grape variety is of high quality and versatile. Its versatility is particularly evident in the fact that Mourvédre can be used for blends as well as for single-varietal wines and always brings its typical notes to the wine. Long summer days are a prerequisite for optimal ripening, which makes South Africa an ideal location for planting. The Mourvédre grape variety also needs a high alcohol content to develop the taste of blackcurrants and light herbal notes. The conditions at the Cape are also ideal for this.
