Winemaker at Leopard's Leap: James Ochse

James Ochse has been Head Winemaker at Leopard's Leap since March 2026 and brings extensive experience from both the South African and international wine industry. After completing his education in Stellenbosch, he gained valuable experience at some of South Africa's leading wine cellars as well as during harvests in Marlborough, New Zealand, and California's Napa Valley. Most recently, he worked as Senior Winemaker for KWV Red Wines. James is particularly inspired by the diversity of South African terroir. He combines a deep respect for traditional winemaking with a modern approach to the craft. At Leopard's Leap, his aim is to reflect the quality and diversity of the country's vineyards and create wines that people around the world enjoy sharing with family and friends.

Not only in the estate's own restaurant, but also at one of the many wine and food pairings, connoisseurs can discover the unique taste experience of Leopard's Leap wines for themselves.

Leopard's Leap is Committed to Animal Welfare

The winery is also committed to preserving the environment and protecting the endangered leopards living in the mountains of the Cape region. Leopard's Leap supports the organisation Cape Leopard Trust and presents their work at the farm with an interactive range of information and gives an insight into the animals’ way of life. In addition, Leopard's Leap has taken over the sponsorship of several leopards in the mountains of Cederberg and Franschhoek.
