L'Ré Hughes
L'Ré Hughes was born and raised in Stellenbosch. Her love of nature and the subjects of biology and chemistry led her to study viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch University. After various stations in California, Australia and France, L'Ré was drawn back home. She worked at various wineries and also completed a master's degree in wine business at the Groupe École Supérieure de Commerce de Dijon in Burgundy, France, graduating with distinction. Because L'Ré Hughes knows the terroir very well, she succeeds in creating wines with fine balance at Stellenzicht.

What our Customers think
Stellenzicht: Premium Wine from the Helderberg
The Stellenzicht wine estate is situated between the Waterford and Dornier wine estates in Stellenbosch. At the foot of the Helderberg, South African premium wine has been produced for centuries, as Stellenzicht belonged to the Rustenberg wine estate founded in 1684. Time and again there have been name changes, changes of ownership and land shifts on the farm. In 1981, Stellenzicht was given its current name, which means "view of Stellenbosch" – this can almost be taken literally, after all, the town of Stellenbosch is only five kilometres away from the winery.
Stellenzicht's focus is on red wines
Even much older than the history of Stellenzicht are the sandstone soils of the vineyards. With a lot of time and effort, the Stellenzicht team analysed the individual soil types so that each grape variety gets the best location for it. The effort was worth it, because the elegant white wines and red wines reflect their terroir in the best possible way. The red wines Arenite Syrah, Tristone Cabernet Sauvignon and Silcrete Cinsault show on the one hand which red grape varieties the focus is on and on the other hand make reference to the different types of sandstone that form the foundation for the vines in the vineyard. It is also the Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Cinsault grape varieties that are used for Stellenzicht's best red wine, the Acheulean Red. Among the white grape varieties, the focus is on the Chardonnay variety.
Stellenzicht is committed to sustainability
In addition to the complex creations, the winery also has uncomplicated wines in its portfolio, which can be found in the Thunderstone collection. The rosé, the white wine and the red wine are fresh and fruity and can be enjoyed carefree. Every Stellenzicht wine is given great attention in the wine cellar. Experience, patience and minimal intervention in the production process are the secret of Stellenzicht's success – according to the motto "In pursuit of balance". Already in the vineyard, sustainable methods and nature conservation are of great importance. The fact that it is possible to protect the native flora and fauna is shown by the fact that the dragonfly has reestablished itself in the vineyards. The animal is very adaptable and therefore does not adorn the Stellenzicht logo without reason: the dragonfly is a symbol of sustainability and the future, because the team of the winery is willing to adapt if necessary to preserve the balance of nature and to produce the excellent Stellenzicht wines in harmony with it. Visitors can enjoy the result in "The Wine Pod", Stellenzicht's tasting room – along with the breathtaking view.
