What our Customers think
J.W. Huesgen - Top Riesling from Germany
Whoever thinks of wine from Germany usually first thinks of the Riesling grape variety, because it grows in all German growing regions, such as the Rheingau, the Palatinate or on the Moselle. The fruity Riesling wines usually have a high acidity and enjoy great popularity. The creations of J.W. Huesgen - Riesling Méthode traditional, Schiefer Riesling dry and Riesling Alte Reben dry - are no exception. These three typical German Riesling wines reflect the long tradition of viticulture on the Moselle and at the same time the centuries-old history of the family estate, as they remind us of three very special women.
Best sites deliver excellent J.W. Huesgen Rieslings
Riesling prefers a cooler climate and thrives especially well on steep slopes. The J.W. Huesgen wines benefit from this, because their grapes come from two steep slopes located on the Moselle: Enkircher Steffensberg and Trabener Würzgarten. The slate soil here gives the J.W. Huesgen Rieslings an additional mineral character. This minerality, along with the fruity aromas and a noticeable acidity, is also a typical characteristic of German Riesling. The two steep slopes of Enkircher Steffensberg and Trabener Würzgarten have long been a guarantee for high quality Riesling from Germany. After all, they were already listed in the Prussian wine classification in 1886 and received the highest classification. Even today they still produce first-class Rieslings - the wines of J.W. Huesgen are the best proof of this. In a successful way they connect the present with the past, because each of these three Moselle wines tells its own story.
Then as today: J.W. Huesgen is a guarantee for excellent Riesling
Each of the three Riesling wines is reminiscent of a woman who has shaped the history of the family winery. The elegant Riesling Méthode traditional is dedicated to Maria Angelika Huesgen, who took over the winery in 1782 and is still considered a "Grand Dame" today. Louise Christine Huesgen also had a significant influence. In the 19th century, the merchant's daughter and her husband ensured that a new wine cellar was built directly on the banks of the Moselle. The fine fruity slate Riesling dry is a reminder of this. Finally, Lotte Huesgen joins the ranks of strong women. After the Second World War and the death of her husband, she had to continue the winery in Traben-Trarbach on the Moselle on her own. Her strength is in no way inferior to the opulent Riesling dry old vine, whose grapes come from vines over 120 years old. Then as now, the family business ensures that wine lovers always have an excellent Riesling from Germany in their glass with the J.W. Huesgen wines.
