The Selection 16/79 Merlot shimmers ruby red in the glass and already delights with its wonderful fruity fragrance, which exudes aromas of plums and red berries. A subtle oak note rounds off the first impression. On the palate, the great interplay of fruity and spicy notes continues in a wonderful way. But the Selection 16/79 Merlot not only scores with its wonderful taste, but also with its velvety structure and the soft tannins, which the red wine owes to its twelve months of ageing in French and American oak barrels. The red wine is the ideal companion to dishes with pasta or dark meat in a fruity sauce. The Selection 16/79 is a tribute to Simon van der Stel, who as governor founded the wine culture in the Cape.

Selection 16/79 – a declaration of love to the South African art of winemaking
Selection 16/79 commemorates Simon van der Stel, who came to South Africa in 1679 and became the first governor of the Cape. He was also the one who founded the wine culture of his new homeland and thus laid the foundation for the winemaking tradition in the Cape Winelands, which continues to this day. The Selection 16/79 is not only a homage to the origins of South African viticulture, but also reflects the richness and unique character of South African wines. The fact that the wines in Selection 16/79 offer something of everything that makes South African winemaking special is due on the one hand to the fact that the grapes come from different growing regions, but also to first-class winemakers.
Selection 16/79: A wine collection as colourful as the rainbow nation
The Selection 16/79 consists of six diverse red wines, three fruity fresh white wines and one rosé. All the wine creations have been created in collaboration with selected winemakers and reflect the different facets of the South African wine world. For red wine lovers, Selection 16/79 offers a Pinotage, a Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon or a classic Cape Blend. The two red wines in the 16/79 Réserve Range are expressive creations and an extremely successful example of the excellent art of winemaking in the Cape. A Sauvignon Blanc from the Elgin, a typical Chardonnay and an elegant Sémillon will delight white wine fans, while the filigree Rosé convinces with its elegance and freshness. The handcrafted Cape Floral Gin and the CAPETOWNIAN Spirit Aperitif are something very special. Unique botanicals from the Cape Floral Kingdom give the fine Cape Floral Gin its unmistakable character and the CAPETOWNIAN is the perfect sundowner that captures the vibrant life of Cape Town in the glass.
