Maritime climate

Maritime climate prevails in coastal areas and is clearly characterised by the influence of the sea. In such regions there are relatively small temperature differences between day and night and between summer and winter, as the sea cools the land in summer days and warms it in winter. Winegrowers and meteorologists also call these areas "temperature reservoirs". The climate with its high humidity strongly influences the growth phases of the vines. The cool sea breeze, also called Cape Doctor in South Africa, as well as the frequently occurring fog are perfect foundations for growing grapes. Due to the maritime climate in South Africa, there is an excellent landscape for winegrowing, which has already been taken up by several wineries.
