Cool Climate Wine

Cool Climate Wine is a term often used in South Africa for a wine that comes from a cool wine region. Frequent cool humid breezes (Cape Doctor), mostly from the Atlantic, provide moderate temperatures in wine regions such as Stellenbosch and Paarl. They provide relatively cool nights and thus extend the growing seasons of the vines. However, the temperature differences between summer and winter as well as day and night are relatively small. In addition, humidity is relatively low, which significantly inhibits the emergence of many diseases. Due to the prolonged growth periods, the grape varieties ripen much later and thus ensure a concentrated wine with excellent aromas.
