Blanc de Blancs

The term "Blanc de Blancs" comes from the French and literally means something like "white from white". That is, it is a white wine made exclusively from white grapes. Since 1980, however, the term has been used only for wines made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape variety. The term originated in Champagne to distinguish a white Champagne made using only Chardonnay from other light Champagnes made using only red (Blanc de Noir) or red and white grapes. Blanc de Blancs sparkling wines can also be found in South Africa, for example at the Graham Beck or Simonsig wineries. They are characterized by their high quality and good shelf life and impress with their elegance.
