Villiera – One of the leading Cap Classique producers from the Cape

Alexander Monro Grier and Nathan Valentine

Alexander Monro Grier and Nathan Valentine are responsible for the wines at Villiera. Alexander Monro Grier is the nephew of the co-founder Simon Grier and gained twelve years of practical winemaking experience in South Africa, Europe and Australia, before he became a part of the family business in 2017. Alexander is responsible for the production of the Cap Classiques. Nathan Valentine studied at the Elsenberg Agriculture College and was working for wineries in South Africa, California and South France. He now has an eye on the production of white and red wines at Villiera.

Villiera – Guided by nature

One of the leading South African wine producers is the wine estate Villiera, which is located in the Northwest of Stellenbosch, South Africa. They already amazed many connoisseurs with their brilliant wines. Whether sparkling or still white and red wines everything can be found in the ranges of the Villiera wines. Talking about ranges, there is one similar aspect that is dominant through the rows of the assortment from Villiera wines, namely the natural aspect within the names. In example the down to earth collection. It stands for environmental responsibility, for nurturing the soil on which the vines grow and returning the rest to its natural state of origin. "Reliable, affordable and down-to-earth" is what this line stands for, but the Pearls of Nectar range has also a nature-driven aspect. The word "pearls" refers to the bubbles that should not be missing in a sparkling wine. The term is also symbolic of the nectar pearls that attract insects and birds to Villiera's beautiful flowers. Among those, there is also the Monro range. Although this is not nature-related, it is home to two of Villiera's flagship wines. The Monro Brut and the Monro Merlot, both wines that shine with quality and delicate taste. Incidentally, the word Monro comes from the Grier family, where every male member of the family has had this as a middle name for several generations now.

Villiera - A heart for animals and people

“Fair, honest, ethical and innovative with a strong family unity” – that is the winery Villiera. This principle runs through the entire winery, whether with each other, with customers or with animals, Villiera always sticks to its core values: "do good, feel good". Exactly this can be recognised within their social responsibility. The wine estate focuses not only on the well-being of its own people but also on their families. In South Africa are many farm workers with little children and together with the pebbles project, Villiera makes sure that those younger ones benefit from a good education, health, protection, community and get all the nutrition’s they need. This enriches the lives of thousands of children in the Wine lands of the Western Cape. The programme also contains an early childhood development centre and an after school club, where the kids can do their homework. Additionally, Villiera offers a wildlife sanctuary with Springbucks, Kudus, Giraffes, Waterbucks, etc., where one can observe all these wild life animals up close. 220 hectares of land, 12 dams and marsh areas create an amazing environment for the animals and attracts a large variety of birdlife. It is simply beautiful to look at.

The enchanting chapters of Villiera

Nine different little stories are hidden behind various symbols on the back of the wine labels, all of which tell a part of Villiera's principles and values. One of them, for example, is the story of the tortoise and the rabbit, which symbolises the fact that Villiera only adopts new methods that have been thoroughly tested in advance.
