Chris Boustred
Grown up on the family-owned winery Remhoogte, Chris Boustred was already surrounded by wine and the wine industry at a young age. Therefore, his path into this industry was almost predestined. In the year 2004, Chris completed his studies in viniculture and oenology with a Bachelor of Science degree and shortly afterwards he spent two years travelling to different wine regions around the world. His stops included the Margret River in Western Australia, Bordeaux in France as well as the Californian Napa Valley. Back in South Africa, he took over the position as winemaker on Remhoogte in 2007 and three years later he in addition assumed responsibility for the vineyards. Since then, Chris Boustred has been in charge of the entire production process from the vineyard to the bottle.
Remhoogte in Stellenbosch
Remhoogte is a family-run winery situated in the heart of the famous Stellenbosch wine region. The Murray family has owned the winery since 1993 and is now leading Remhoogte in its second generation with great passion. Despite the winery's long tradition, it was the Murray family who planted vines here for the first time. In the meantime, slightly more than half of the winery's 60 hectares have been planted with high-quality and mainly red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinotage vines. A Chenin Blanc completes the portfolio of Remhoogte wines.
Remhoogte with gentle winemaking skills
The Remhoogte Winery has a long tradition dating back to 1812. The soil is also old and belongs to one of the oldest soils in the world. The terroir of Remhoogte is considered particularly complex and thus offers the perfect conditions for rich Remhoogte wine. In the wine cellar, the maturation process is influenced as little as possible - because the wine production on Remhoogte is still real manual work. From the vineyard to the wine cellar, everything is still done by hand. These gentle interventions in the maturation process as well as the unique terroir are reflected in the noble wines of Remhoogte.
Environmental awareness on Remhoogte
Wine is made in the vineyards - this philosophy is written in capital letters at the Remhoogte Winery. Approximately 30% of the area of the winery is not planted and offers space for the flora and fauna of the Western Cape. In addition, Remhoogte is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative and is thus committed to the environment. The Murray family always strives to make wine tasting an unforgettable experience. The Stellenbosch Winery offers great views of the Stellenbosch Mountains and the Stellenbosch Wildlife Reserve with zebras, springboks and wildebeests. When opening Remhoogte wines, the wine lover should feel kidnapped right in this beautiful spot in Stellenbosch!
