Winemaker of Jordan Wine Estate: Gary Jordan
Gary Jordan combines his background in geology with a passion for winemaking, giving him a deep understanding of soils and vines. Since the mid-1980s, he has managed the traditional family estate in Stellenbosch together with his wife Kathy.
After studying at the University of California, Davis, and completing an internship in Sonoma, California, he combined international expertise with South African winemaking tradition. Under his leadership, Jordan Wine Estate has developed into one of the country’s most renowned wineries. As a former Chairman of the Cape Winemakers Guild and an experienced wine judge, he has also become an influential figure in the South African wine industry.

What our Customers think
Jordan Wine Estate – Where Nature, Innovation & Craftsmanship Come Together
Located in the heart of the world-famous Stellenbosch wine region, Jordan Wine Estate is one of South Africa's most highly regarded wineries. Since the 1980s, Gary and Kathy Jordan have shaped the estate with a visionary approach and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Their philosophy is to combine the unique terroir of Stellenbosch, innovative technology and traditional winemaking craftsmanship in perfect harmony. Thanks to its spectacular hillside location with panoramic views of Table Mountain, False Bay and the surrounding mountains, Jordan combines impressive natural beauty with outstanding winery architecture. The state-of-the-art gravity-flow cellar is built into the hillside and benefits from natural cooling – an excellent example of sustainable and resource-efficient winemaking.
Jordan Wines – Authentic, Elegant & Terroir-Driven
The vineyards of Jordan Wine Estate extend across 164 hectares at elevations ranging from 160 to 410 metres above sea level and face in all directions – creating ideal conditions for a wide variety of classic grape varieties. The vines are rooted in ancient granite, clay and sandy soils and benefit from the cooling influences of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, which provide freshness and balance. Varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chenin Blanc and Merlot develop remarkably distinctive profiles under these conditions. In the cellar, the team focuses on precise vinification, using stainless-steel tanks with individually temperature-controlled cooling systems and oak barrels for traditional maturation – including Burgundian-inspired techniques for Chardonnay. The result is a collection of wines distinguished by finesse, structure and ageing potential, appealing to both critics and wine lovers.
Food & Hospitality – Experiences at Jordan Wine Estate
A visit to Jordan Wine Estate offers much more than traditional wine tastings. Across the expansive estate, surrounded by a dam, woodland and vineyards, guests can enjoy a variety of memorable experiences: from private wine tastings and estate tours with views of the Stellenbosch Mountains to stylish picnic pods beside the water with carefully prepared gourmet baskets or a visit to the acclaimed Jordan Restaurant, where Chef Marthinus Ferreira serves modern South African cuisine with international influences.
