Vine

Vine or vine plant means the entire vine plant from the roots to the tips of the shoots. This can bear fruit for up to 30 years, sometimes even longer. This depends on many factors besides the quality of the vine, such as sunlight, rainfall and soil. Old vines, in particular, consistently demonstrate great resilience and flavor quality. Examples of older vines that still produce outstanding wines can be found, for example, in Anthonij Rupert's Cape of Good Hope range. But even young plants produce excellent wine day after day, in the end the age of the vine is only one of many puzzle pieces that contribute to a good or just bad wine

The Key Phases of the Vine

Already in the period of harvesting the vine produces the new buds, which begin their proper period of growth in the spring of the next year. There the vine "weeps", which means that the plant lets its sap flow through the roots into the earth. This is the most important phase for the vine to produce a wine with a successful vintage. Thanks to the constant climate without too many fluctuations, the vines in South Africa can grow continuously and mature to excellent flowering.
