Tulbagh

Tulbagh is a small wine region in South Africa, bordering the north of Paarl. Dotted with fruit orchards and vineyards, this area is a great place to visit. Tulbagh is a drier region, but cool nights and moisture-retaining clay soil provide ideal conditions for planting vines. In the actual white wine region, excellent red wine varieties such as Shiraz, Pinotage as well as Cabernet have now come to the fore. In 1969, there was a major earthquake here with serious consequences for the wine industry. However, within a few years the local winegrowers managed a remarkable reconstruction and modernization of the wineries.
