Noble Grapevine

Noble grapevine is a collective term for all high-quality grape varieties. Also known under the French name Cépagles nobles, noble vines are used in blended wines or in varietal wines. The processing of such grape varieties usually results in a top wine, but there is no guarantee. Whether a noble grapevine is present is difficult to delineate and clear, measurable criteria do not exist. An important indication, however, is the worldwide distribution, since one can conclude on the adaptability of the grape varieties to climate and environment. For example, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are referred to as red noble grape varieties. The best-known white grape varieties are Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
