Colombard

The white Colombard grape, usually spelled Colombar in South Africa, represents a lively and fresh wine with a fruity taste. The name comes from the word "Colombe" (German for dove) and refers to the somewhat grayish color of the berry. The grape encompasses many aromas such as pineapple, apple, lemon, mango and peach. Varietally, it produces an easily accessible and dry white wine. However, it is especially often used for cuvées, in which it adds a fruity note to any wine. In South Africa, Colombard is one of the most widely planted grape varieties. Renowned wineries such as Blaauwklippen show time and again that Colombard produces excellent premium wines.
