What our Customers think
La Vierge – The Jewel of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge
High above the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, between ocean and mountains, lies La Vierge, set within one of South Africa’s most breathtaking wine landscapes. Here, some of the country’s finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are produced. Founded over 20 years ago by Peter Clarke, the estate follows a simple yet powerful philosophy: Trust the Site. The vineyards are planted on pristine soils within a natural amphitheatre, giving each block its own distinctive identity.
Unique Terroir – Where Clay, Shale and Ocean Breezes Meet
La Vierge’s vineyards are rooted in clay-rich Bokkeveld shale, which retains moisture while supplying the vines with essential minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Combined with cooling Atlantic breezes, these soils promote slow, even ripening. The resulting wines show exceptional freshness, structure and depth, capturing the essence of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge terroir.
Tradition Meets Innovation – The Art of Winemaking at La Vierge
In the cellar, La Vierge blends craftsmanship with modern innovation. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently processed and fermented separately by vineyard block to preserve each site’s individuality. Natural fermentation in oak, concrete and amphorae results in wines of purity and expressive character. After up to twelve months of maturation, the wines emerge elegant, mineral and precise – true ambassadors of their origin. At the La Vierge Tasting Room & Restaurant, these wines take centre stage, paired with thoughtfully crafted dishes that enhance their flavours and complete the experience
