Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage 2020 in gift box

Product information "Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage 2020 in gift box"
‘Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much’ is written both on the high-quality gift packaging and on the label of the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage. It is this motto that makes the red wine an exceptional wine, as a large proportion of the proceeds from sales go to the Old Vine Project and the Cape Winemakers Guild Protégés to support the South African wine industry. The second vintage of the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage is once again a fresh and elegant wine from old vines that impresses in the glass with its brilliant ruby red colour. The cuvée of Cinsault (70%) and Pinotage (30%) has fruity hints of plums, cherries and redcurrants, but also spicy notes of cinnamon, vanilla and pepper. Exotic flavours such as liquorice and cardamom make the multi-layered character of the Imvini Wethe Cinsault Pinotage perfect and are wonderfully surrounded by dark chocolate. This long-lasting red wine owes its silky soft tannins to its 18 months of ageing in oak. Incidentally, the name ‘Imvini Wethu’ means something like ‘our vines’. A very apt name, as the Cinsault grapes come from the second oldest Cinsault vineyard in the country, which is now 88 years old, and the Pinotage vines are also over 40 years old. For this reason, the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage is also entitled to bear the ‘Old Vine Heritage Seal’. The wonderful history and the pretty gift packaging make this special wine a great gift for red wine lovers.

IMVINI WETHU – for the love of South Africa

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much", some retailers and importers thought and joined forces with other partners and sponsors to form a unique cooperation to support the wine industry in South Africa – which was in crisis due to the global Corona pandemic. This collaboration resulted in the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage. The melodious name means something like "our wine" or "our vines". However, this sense of community goes far beyond the name of this special red wine, because with this wine the initiators of the project show their friendship and solidarity with their partners at the Cape, whom they also stand by in difficult times – and not only in a symbolic sense, because the majority of the proceeds from the sale of the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pintoage go to the Old Vine Project and to the Protégé Programme of the Cape Winemakers Guild.

IMVINI WETHU – a very special wine

The young winemakers of the Cape Winemakers Guild's Protégé Programme – a training programme that supports young people in their education in the wine industry – are also the ones who created the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage. They were supported by Andrea Mullineux, chairperson of the Cape Winemakers Guild and internationally recognised winemaker. The mentor is enthusiastic about the project and her protégés: "This project, the solidarity and the chance to do something good together in this crisis is a great incentive for all of us. We are very grateful to the initiators. For the protégés, this is an important learning experience that shows them that wine is an emotional product and connects people across borders." But the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage succeeds in another link: the young winemakers made this unique wine from very special grapes that come from very old vines. The Cinsault grapes come from the second oldest vineyard in the whole of South Africa – an 88-year-old vineyard on the eastern slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains – and the Pinotage grapes come from vines over 40 years old in the Swartland. These old vines give the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage its incomparable character, elegance and especially its extremely pleasant and soft mouthfeel.

IMVINI WETHU: A contribution to the preservation of the Cape Winelands

The fact that such old vines can still provide enjoyable wine moments today is also thanks to the Old Vine Project. The organisation works to protect and preserve old vines in South Africa, for example by supporting farmers to preserve the unique potential and the incredible complexity and quality that these vines deliver. The world's first seal, "The Old Vine Hertiage Seal" guarantees, with the indication of the year of planting, that the awarded wines are older than 35 years. In order to support this important work, the Old Vine Project, along with the Protégé Programme of the Cape Winemakers Guild, is one of the organisations that are supported with the proceeds from the sale of the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage. In this way, not only is a bridge built between the past and the future of the wine industry, but the Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage is also a ray of hope in difficult times: South Africa fans have the opportunity to actively help by enjoying this wonderful red wine and to make a small contribution to the preservation of the colourful, multifaceted and beautiful wine world at the Cape.
