The Selection 16/79 Cabernet Sauvignon shimmers in a bright dark ruby red in the glass and makes red wine fans go into raptures from the very first moment. The bouquet unfolds pleasant aromas of red fruits, especially cherries and currants are present. A hint of oak surrounds the fruity notes and provides the final touch. On the palate, the red wine impresses with its elegance and a classic Cabernet Sauvignon character. A nice acidity and a light herbal note make the clear composition of the Selection 16/79 Cabernet Sauvignon perfect. The red wine matured for seven months in French, American and Hungarian oak and accompanies dishes with dark meat wonderfully. But you should also try this Cabernet Sauvignon on its own. The red wine is part of the Selection 16/79, which commemorates the founding father of the South African winemaking tradition, Simon van der Stel, who became governor of the Cape in 1679 and promoted viticulture in South Africa.

Selection 16/79 – a declaration of love to the South African art of winemaking
Selection 16/79 commemorates Simon van der Stel, who came to South Africa in 1679 and became the first governor of the Cape. He was also the one who founded the wine culture of his new homeland and thus laid the foundation for the winemaking tradition in the Cape Winelands, which continues to this day. The Selection 16/79 is not only a homage to the origins of South African viticulture, but also reflects the richness and unique character of South African wines. The fact that the wines in Selection 16/79 offer something of everything that makes South African winemaking special is due on the one hand to the fact that the grapes come from different growing regions, but also to first-class winemakers.

The Selection 16/79 consists of six diverse red wines, three fruity fresh white wines and one rosé. All the wine creations have been created in collaboration with selected winemakers and reflect the different facets of the South African wine world. For red wine lovers, Selection 16/79 offers a Pinotage, a Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon or a classic Cape Blend. The two red wines in the 16/79 Réserve Range are expressive creations and an extremely successful example of the excellent art of winemaking in the Cape. A Sauvignon Blanc from the Elgin, a typical Chardonnay and an elegant Sémillon will delight white wine fans, while the filigree Rosé convinces with its elegance and freshness.
