In particularly good years, the Muratie winery produces the Muratie Martin Melck Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reserve from the grapes of a single vineyard from the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. The full-bodied and opulent red wine impresses with its structure and balance as well as with its intense fruit, such as aromas of blackberries, currants and plums. The spicy and oak notes are wonderfully integrated and make the red wine, which was matured for 22 months in French oak, a real treat for the palate. Muratie in South Africa produces premium wine for gourmets. Wine novices as well as connoisseurs find the right red or white wine in a variety of ranges. All Muratie wines have in common a particular, individual character and offer an excellent price-quality ratio.
The Muratie Vineyard
The vineyard Muratie attaches great importance to careful handling of the vines at the wine slope. The yard is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative and does not use herbicides. Only geese, ducks and turkeys are used for pest control. This natural approach shows in the Muratie wine, especially as the wine growers still hand-pick the grapes to avoid peel damage. The Muratie winery owns 45 hectares of cultivation area on which red as well as white grape varieties are planted. The soil is relatively dry which is why the land is watered after the harvest. Only by doing this, the winemakers can supply the next vintage with sufficient nutrients. The 300-year-old yard offers great products in all types of wine, but especially the Shiraz caused a stir internationally.
