Paserene Marathon 2020

Product information "Paserene Marathon 2020"
In a dark, almost violet red, Paserene Marathon shines in the glass. The scent of blackcurrants is wafted by dried flowers and black pepper. On the palate, the tannins are very present but very well integrated and the harmonious balance of fruit and oak notes gives the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Petit Verdot (40%) its elegance. Enjoy the red wine, which was matured in oak and then in the bottle for another six months, best with dishes with spicy, dark meat or game. But Paserene Marathon is also a culinary highlight on its own.

Paserene – Passion for unique elegant wines

The boutique winery in Franschhoek produces world-class wines with the utmost care. After his education, ten years in America and a few years on a South African winery, winemaker Martin Smith founded the Paserene winery together with his friend Ndabe Mareda. The name is derived from the Latin word Passeriformes, a generic name for birds, which includes the swallow. The animal is a symbol for Martin Smith, who spread his wings during his stay abroad and at the same time longed to return home and build his nest. The Paserene estate has become that nest. This is also evident, for example, in the architecture of the Tasting Room: the modern building blends harmoniously into its surroundings. On one side there is a curved cladding of light wood, reminiscent of a swallow's nest that birds build on the walls of houses. Slate was used to create accents that symbolise the clay and loam that the swallows use to build their nests.

Paserene – winemaking with the utmost care

This attention to detail runs like a thread through all areas of the winery, as co-owner and winemaker Martin Smith leaves nothing to chance. He is a third generation winemaker and a real tinkerer in the cellar, as he thinks long and hard about what measures he will or will not take to create a balanced and authentic wine. The wines of the Elements Range offer uncomplicated enjoyment for in between. The grapes come from different vineyards in Tulbagh, Franschhoek and Elgin – hence the name. The elegant creations of the Paserene collection tell the story of their terroir and offer fine wine enjoyment. The white and the red wine blend called The Shiner rounds off the Paserene portfolio in a successful way.

Paserene – every wine a small work of art

The artistic labels, designed by three artists from Cape Town, are as tailor-made as the wines. The young woman depicted on the bottle of the Paserene Chardonnay, for example, symbolises the beauty of nature. On the label of the Syrah, which bears the name Union, the young woman and the swallow can be seen together – a sign that the winemaker works hand in hand with nature. However, the beauty of nature is not only seen in and on the bottle, but also on the winery itself. From the terrace of the tasting room, the Paserene Nest, you have a beautiful view of a small lake and the Franschhoek Mountains – the perfect setting to enjoy Paserene's unique wines.
