Dry Farmed Vineyards

Dry Farmed Vineyards are vineyards that the growers do not irrigate. The water from the rainfall is kept and stored in the soils. Only at the beginning, usually over a period of about three years, artificial irrigation may occur to allow the young rootstock to develop well. In South Africa, this phenomenon is often found in the Stellenbosch region. Winegrowers achieve somewhat lower yields, but highly concentrated wines that are clearly superior in quality. Reservoirs are present in such areas, but predominantly form a characteristic element of the landscape.
