Môreson – a Little Piece of Paradise in Franschhoek
There is something magical about the Môreson winery. Approximately one hour away from Cape Town, located in Franschhoek at the Happy Valley Road, it is the perfect safe haven from the hectic everyday life, a little piece of paradise with beautiful surroundings. The four children of the owners the Friedmans have experienced this when they were young as Nikki, Charley, Dane and Blake grew up at Môreson and have discovered and explored the farm every day. Since then they have taken responsibility at the winery and preserved this unique carefree and light-hearted atmosphere of their childhood for their guests that visit Môreson today; everyone is welcomed like an old friend.
Doing Good with Miss Molly Wines
If you have visited Môreson then you know that the Friedman family has a passion for four things: good wine and good food as well as humans and animals – the whole family is crazy about their four-legged house mates. House dog Molly, a Weimaraner, is the star of the winery and namesake of the Miss Molly range. The love for animals does not only constitute in dedicating their wines to them, the family also actively supports their cause: a share of the profits of the Miss Molly wines sold is donated to the organisation South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind und Animals in Distress.
The Focus is on White Wines
The focus of the wines is placed on Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc. The winemaker Clayton Reabow makes sure that the grape varieties’ character can fully develop which results in the wines having a larger body and a sensational mouth feel. Chardonnay – a grape variety Môreson specialises in – is also used for the main part of the sparkling wine production. In the Môreson range, the focus is placed on well-integrated white wines that have been developed in wood; the flagship wine is the Môreson Mercator Chardonnay. The red wines of the estate are very fruit-dominated, elegant and balanced. Regardless of the colour, whether white or red – not only do the Friedmans passionately produce wines, they only sell the creations they are fully convinced by, true to the motto: ‘We don’t create anything we don’t drink ourselves.’
