With its inviting scent of pineapple, guava and white peach, the Rickety Bridge Chenin Blanc already pampers the senses of every white wine fan. Light floral nuances and a hint of green figs add even more complexity to the bouquet. On the palate, the Rickety Bridge Chenin Blanc is full-bodied and rich with notes of tropical fruits and lemons, which are accompanied by a nice honey note in the long-lasting and fresh finish. The multi-layered white wine is an equally versatile food companion: Sushi, fish or poultry in a creamy sauce are just as recommendable as a nice salad or dishes of Asian cuisine.

Rickety Bridge - Historic Winery in the Picturesque Franschhoek

The historic winery Rickety Bridge is located only three kilometres away from the idyllic town of Franschhoek which is known for its outstanding delicacies and excellent wines. Between the picturesque hills of the Dassenberg and the Franschhoek River, the cultivation area offers ideal conditions for winemaker Wynand Grobler to produce top quality wines.
The estate can look back on a long history. There is proof that today’s Rickety Bridge has been active as a farm since the end of the 17th century when Huguenot farmers claimed the land for themselves. Until the foundation in 1990 it was part of the La Provence farm.
Until 1997, the original state of the historic concrete wine cellar and subterranean tanks was completely identifiable yet had to be redone and modernised in the course of arising renovation works. Since the turn of the millennium, the new cellar contains modern cooling systems as well as a capacity of 200 tons of grapes. Since the inclusion of winemaker Wynand Grobler in December 2007, the focus is laid on perfection, passion and emotion in the production of wine. Additionally, there is the unusually good location with various types of soil that enable the cultivation of different kinds of grape varieties. Numerous awards for the Rickety Bridge wines speak a clear language.

Excellent premium wines from an historic winery

Nowadays, the winery features one of the most modern boutique wine cellars at the Cape with an astonishing portfolio of various South Africa grape varieties that entice novices as well as connoisseurs. Proudly, Rickety Bridge presents the Paulina’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. This bottle carries the name of the first owner from 1797, Paulina de Villiers. A red wine with a classic elegant character and an inimitable flavour variation of red fruits and a hint of mint and oak aroma. The flagship of the estate is without a doubt The Bridge; the vintage 2014 was awarded with an impressive 4.5 Platter Stars.

Luxurious Accommodation in the Rickety Bridge Manor House

Besides a rich selection of premium wines, the estate offers family friendly luxury accommodation. The Rickety Bridge Manor House is equipped with three rooms; the Basse Provence Country House features seven rooms and a cottage which is located on the opposite side of the Franschhoek River. The beautiful atmosphere makes it a great venue for wedding ceremonies. Sitting in the restaurant Paulina’s, visitors and wine gourmets enjoy homemade South African cuisine to the fullest.
