With its youthful character, the Mont Rochelle Little Rock Rouge scores from the first moment and unfolds wonderful fruit aromas of red berries, sweet plums and blackcurrants in the bouquet. A hint of mocha rounds off the first impression. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (79%), Syrah (13%) and Petit Verdot (8%) caresses the palate with velvety tannins, but is still fresh and well structured. The red wine matured in oak for eight months and is a nice companion to spicy or dark meat.

Mont Rochelle - a beautiful piece of Franschhoek

The roots of the Mont Rochelle winery date back to 1688. At this time, the de Villiers family received the deed of ownership - but apart from the fact that since then wine has been continuously cultivated on Mont Rochelle, little is known about the history of the winery until the 20th century. In the last twenty years the owners have changed more frequently, and Mont Rochelle has belonged to Virgin Limited Edition since 2014. Three years later, the vineyards were replanted to further enhance the quality of the complex and storable wines. Nothing was left to chance and the analysis showed that the winery had seven different soil types. This made it possible to choose the best location for each grape variety. The result is world-class terroir-specific wines and a beautiful piece of Franschhoek in a glass.

Mont Rochelle - enjoying wine with a panoramic view of the Franschhoek Valley

With three different collections, the winery has everything a connoisseur could wish for. The two blends, called Little Rock, combine complexity and an accessible character, while the Estate Range creations are characterised by their complexity and great structure. The two wines of the Miko Range reflect Mont Rochelle´s terroir in perfection and impress with their richness of facets and elegance. Both the white and red wines of this line pay homage to late Miko Rwayitare, the first black owner of a vineyard in South Africa. One of the two restaurants also bears his name. The Miko caresses the palate with dishes made from fresh and local ingredients and a panoramic view of the vineyards and the Franschhoek Valley. If you like a relaxed and informal atmosphere in the restaurant, Country Kitchen is the place to be. The well-stocked picnic baskets, which the kitchen also puts together - of course with a bottle or two of wine - are very popular.

Mont Rochelle - an experience for young and old

Whether in one of the two restaurants, in the bar or in the wine cellar - there are many possibilities to taste the wines of Mont Rochelle. If you would like to stay a little longer on the winery, you can check in at the hotel or Manor House. An extensive stay would be worthwhile in any case, because there is a lot to discover at and around Mont Rochelle. If you like being active, you can choose between a fitness studio, your own tennis court and golf courses in the surrounding area, hop on your bike or put on your hiking boots. You can then relax in one of the two spa rooms. The winery is also suitable for families, as there are special offers for children in the restaurants and in the hotel, and while the grown-ups taste the first-class wines, the little ones can taste the delicious grape juice. There is also a children's version of the picnic baskets. A visit to Mont Rochelle is therefore an experience for the whole family.
