With its beautiful colour and pleasant character, Muratie Melck's Blended Red is a wonderful red wine for any occasion. Aromas of dark fruits pamper the connoisseur's senses, while undertones of white pepper provide a spicy component. As the blend of Shiraz (36%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%), Merlot (20%) and Mourvèdre (11%) is matured for 18 months in French oak, a wonderful mocha note is added and the soft tannins give Muratie Melck's Blended Red a pleasant mouthfeel. Therefore, the red wine blend is already a delight to the palate on its own, but it also accompanies dishes with pasta or dark meat quite excellently.

Muratie – the Winery from a different Time

If you step into the rooms of the Muratie winery, you will think you just travelled back in time. Time seems to stand still here, in a positive way. The whole estate literally breathes the traditional history and there are little details and exciting stories to be discovered everywhere. You can feel the love with which the last generations have created wines of the highest class at Muratie.

Beloved Wines with a History

In 1685, Laurens Campher founded the yard; in his honour, there is a wine with his name in the portfolio of Muratie. Every single wine tells a story and is therefore a part of the special history of the yard. Each wine carries another name that is mostly based on former owners of the estate. Besides Laurens Campher, George Paul Canitz, Alberta Annemarie, Ronnie Melck and many others are perpetuated. This shows the high importance of the history and the stories connected to it to the team of Muratie. Wine lovers can even find a literary background of the premium wines. For example, Amber Forever is based on the novel of Kathleen Winsor from the 1940s; it tells the story of the young Amber that sweetened the nights of some of the finest gentlemen of the British upper class. George Paul Canitz has created this wine and is known for the following: ‘To happy days and glorious nights, Forever Amber.’

Authentic Winery from the Owner Rijk Melck

Muratie is a wonderfully authentic winery which revives its own tradition over and over again. This can be tasted in the wines, too, that are full of energy, but also of a certain sophistication that comes with age and atmosphere. Strong notes, perfectly balanced and a pleasant harmony between acidity and tannins, or acidity and fruit aromas are their trademark. Together with the winemaker Hattingh de Villiers, the owner Rijk Melck succeeded in making Muratie an exceptionally interesting winery in South Africa. For Rijk Melck, this is more than just wine; it is about the stories and emotions that are tied to it.
