The beautiful ruby-red colour of the Selection 16/79 Red Blend is enough to make red wine lovers...
The beautiful ruby-red colour of the Selection 16/79 Red Blend is enough to make red wine lovers go into raptures - and its uncomplicated character even more so. With its harmonious interplay of fruity and spicy notes, the blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc pampers the nose and palate of the connoisseur. The nuances of red and dark fruits are wonderfully surrounded by white pepper and thyme, which makes the accessible Selection 16/79 Red Blend a real treat on its own, but it is also the perfect partner for the next barbecue. The wine is part of Selection 16/79, which is a tribute to the South African winemaking tradition. Simon van der Stel, who is considered the founding father of South African wine culture when he became governor of the Cape in 1679, played a significant role in this.

Selection 16/79 – a declaration of love to the South African art of winemaking

Selection 16/79 commemorates Simon van der Stel, who came to South Africa in 1679 and became the first governor of the Cape. He was also the one who founded the wine culture of his new homeland and thus laid the foundation for the winemaking tradition in the Cape Winelands, which continues to this day. The Selection 16/79 is not only a homage to the origins of South African viticulture, but also reflects the richness and unique character of South African wines. The fact that the wines in Selection 16/79 offer something of everything that makes South African winemaking special is due on the one hand to the fact that the grapes come from different growing regions, but also to first-class winemakers.

Selection 16/79: A wine collection as colourful as the rainbow nation

The Selection 16/79 consists of seven diverse red wines, two fruity fresh white wines, one rosé and two sparkling wines. All the wine creations have been created in collaboration with selected winemakers and reflect the different facets of the South African wine world. For red wine lovers, Selection 16/79 offers a Pinotage, a Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon or a classic Cape Blend. The two red wines in the 16/79 Reserve Range are expressive creations and an extremely successful example of the excellent art of winemaking in the Cape. A Sauvignon Blanc from the Elgin and a typical Chardonnay will delight white wine fans, while the filigree Rosé convinces with its elegance and freshness. With the Sparkling White and the Sparkling Rosé, two sparkling wines round off Selection 16/79. Something very special is the handcrafted Cape Floral Gin, because unique botanicals from the Cape Floral Kingdom give this fine spirit its unmistakable character.

Selection 16/79 – always a good choice

Thanks to its multi-faceted nature, Selection 16/79 offers the right wine for every occasion. If, for example, you are looking for an uncomplicated white wine to enjoy with family and friends, you will find Sauvignon Blanc a wonderful companion, which incidentally also goes well with light dishes. Speaking of food: In this regard, all the creations in Selection 16/79 are a good choice. The Chardonnay is simply a dream with fish, and Cape Blend, for example, goes perfectly with your favourite pasta. At a party – or if you have a good reason to toast – the two sparkling wines should not be missing. As different in style as the creations of Selection 16/79 are, thanks to their complexity and fruity elegance they all radiate South African flair in the glass on every occasion.
