The beautiful red hue in the glass already announces a wine with a strong character – a promise...
The beautiful red hue in the glass already announces a wine with a strong character – a promise that the Warwick Three Cape Ladies also fulfils, because already in the bouquet, the red wine shows itself to be very multi-layered with notes of blackberries, cherry compote and a hint of rosemary. This richness of facets continues on the palate, nuances of red fruits harmonise with smoky notes and hints of dark chocolate are added in the finish. The rich texture and powerful tannins give the red wine, aged for 27 months in French oak, its great mouthfeel. After a few years, the Pinotage grape variety (22%) is once again represented in the blend alongside Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) and Cabernet Franc (12%). Enjoy a red wine like the Warwick Three Cape Ladies best with dishes of dark meat in a red wine sauce, but the wine is also a culinary highlight on its own.

Warwick - A constant of the South African world of wine

Warwick´s origins go back to the year 1771. It received its present name in 1902 after the end of the Second Boer War, when the colonel William Alexander Gordon acquired the winery and named it after his regiment (Warwickshire). For a long time, the Ratcliffe family shaped the history of Warwick, mainly planting Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and over the years made the winery a constant in the South African world of wine. Meanwhile, Warwick is owned by Charles Marston und Kishore Bopardikar. The investors of Eileses Capital want to extend the worldwide recognition, which the winery already enjoys today. One step into this direction was the purchase of the neighbouring Uitkyk Wine Farm. With that, Warwick now has more than 700 hectares of first-class terroir in Simonsberg-Stellenbosch at its disposal. Best conditions for excellent wines as the Trilogy. The flagship of the winery, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, is a brilliant Barrique-wine and a guarantor for awards.

Enjoying Warwick-wine in harmony with nature

In the cultivation of its high-quality vines, Warwick focuses on environmental friendliness and sustainability. The winery is a member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative and is committed to the protection and maintenance of the unique wildlife at the Cape. Non-indigenous tree species were removed from the terrain and it began to plant 100 to 150 trees a year. Within the last decades the team of Warwick recognized how important the balance between nature and wine production is. Today, four hectares are under conservation. The visitors of Warwick are also given the opportunity to enjoy the nature at the winery – for example at a delicious picnic. Furthermore, the large lawn with its covered seats and trees invites you to relax with a glass of wine.

Warwick is the ideal setting for ceremonial occasions

The outstanding creations of Warwick, which already have won numerous awards, can of course be tasted in the great atmosphere of the Tasting Room – flanked by anecdotes of the history of the winery. Maybe the story of the Wedding Cup is one of them. According to the legend a king promised his daughter Kunigunde to allow her to marry the love of her life, a silversmith, if he were capable of making a cup out of which a couple could drink simultaneously without spilling a drop. Inspired by this prospect, the young silversmith created a sculpture following the image of his princess, who holds a cup that is attached in such a way that this actually succeeds, and was allowed to marry the princess. Even today, the Wedding Cup is a symbol of love for many couples and it is supposed to bring luck when drinking from it together. By the way: With its very special atmosphere the winery is the perfect setting for festivities and many a couple got married here.
