Tokara – cool Temperatures make for rich Grapes
The fairly young winery Tokara originated in 1994 when GT Ferreira purchased the estate. Back then, it was only thought of as a residence, but soon the optimal location for wine cultivation was discovered. Shortly after, the first vines were planted here. Today, Tokara is comprised by three different acreages: there are the southern slopes at the Simonsberg, the highlands in Elgin and the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. Each of these areas makes for very different wines and a connoisseur of Tokara can recognise the different terroirs often with the first sip. Due to the location of the acreages, there are rather low temperatures at the estate and a cool wind. Vines and the grapes growing on them ripen especially slowly and have enough time to develop their aromas and flavour carriers to the full potential.
Fantastic View and casual Atmosphere
Those who have been to the winery Tokara will never forget the grand sight from the summit of the Helshoogte Pass. With a breathtaking view of the mountains along the False Bay up to the Table Mountain, the estate itself belongs on every itinerary. Connoisseurs can treat themselves to culinary gems in the restaurant. All this in a relaxed and casual bistro-like atmosphere that simply invites you to stay.
The Director’s Reserve Collection
Tokara´s flagship is the so-called Director’s Reserve Collection. The Director’s White is a cuvee from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. An initial aroma of fresh lime is harmoniously brought into balance by the taste of tropical fruits. A blend of the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec: that is the Director’s Red. Notes of currant and mint carry the full-bodied but always elegant wine.
