With the wonderful scent of cherries, mulberries and plums, Boschendal 1685 Shiraz pampers the connoisseur from the very first moment. Exotic spices and pepper play around the fruity notes and successfully round off the bouquet. On the palate, the rich but still accessible red wine also presents itself fruity and spicy with silky tannins, before leaving with a long finish. The Boschendal 1685 Shiraz matured for 14 months in oak and is a beautiful companion to dishes with dark meat or game. It can also be served a little more spicy on the plate.

Boschendal – a paradise near Cape Town

In the midst of the breathtaking scenery of the Simonsberg and Drakenstein Mountains, the Boschendal winery has been situated for over 300 years. The name means "wood and valley" - a fitting description for the unique and beautiful location, only one hour's drive from Cape Town. A few years ago the traditional estate was facing ruin, but today it shines in new splendour. Besides wine, fruit is also grown and Angus cattle graze the meadows. Sustainability plays an important role on Boschendal in all areas in order to preserve the special character of the estate. Therefore, the principle is to work with nature and not against it. Visitors can also enjoy the unique landscape in the middle of Cape Floral Kingdom.

Boschendal offers moments of pleasure for all the senses

The extensive grounds can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. Guided tours of the wine cellar and tastings allow guests of Boschendal to experience for themselves that tradition and innovation go hand in hand in the production of classic and fruity wines. The dedicated winegrowers work in separate cellars for white and red wine, with the emphasis on the Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz grape varieties. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also grown. Each collection – from the Applleation Series to the creations of the Classics 1685 lines and the Heritage Collection – offers wine lovers outstanding creations for intense moments of enjoyment. This is also what the restaurant "The Deli" offers its guests. The fresh ingredients of the seasonally changing menu come either from Boschendal's own cultivation or from small farms within a radius of thirty kilometres. While the Deli offers a wide choice of breakfast, lunch and dinner, wine lovers can taste Boschdal's excellent wines at "The Werf" and choose from a variety of options – including a tasting of wine and chocolate – and order one of the delicious farm platters. On weekends there is also the opportunity to enjoy the expressive wines and the beautiful landscape during a pleasant picnic in the rose garden.

Boschendal: Let your soul dangle in the midst of nature

If you want to stay a little longer on Boschendal, you can choose between different types of accommodation. The Rhodes Cottage offers historical flair with a magnificent view, the Werf Cottages are beautifully restored modern guest houses in a rural style, the Orchard Cottages offer more luxury and the Trout Cottage with three bedrooms is an ideal retreat for families and small groups. Children between the ages of five and fourteen can participate in the Tree House programme. Something very special is the "Tented Camp". Seven fully equipped, luxury tents blend seamlessly into the wonderful landscape of fynbos, olive trees and Simonsberg and offer views of Franschhoek, Paarl and the Drakenstein Mountains. A visit to Boschendal is therefore a unique experience for every guest.
