Der Waterford The Family Reserve Heatherleigh flows golden-yellow into the glass of the connoisseur. The bouquet is dominated by dried apricots, nicely backed-up by notes of muscat and vanilla. On the palate, the same notes come to shine, an elegant structure and wonderful depth round the dessert wine off that is made from the grape varieties Muscat d'Alexandrie (55%), Chardonnay (30%), Viognier (12%) and Chenin Blanc (2%). The dessert wine is a lovely combination to chocolate or cheese.

In Harmony with Nature – Waterford Winery

The Waterford winery is located in the picturesque Blaauwklippen valley in the world-famous Stellenbosch wine region. Preserving the beauty of this nature is very important to the estate's team, which is why only half of the 120 hectares of land is cultivated with vines. Waterford's farm managers David and Winemaker Mark Le Roux work hand in hand to preserve the original fynbos landscape as good as possible. Visitors can explore the area during a three-hour ‘Wine & Drive Safari’ – and have the unique opportunity to taste Waterford creations where they start: directly in the vineyard.

Experience Wine Production Up Close

But there are also numerous possibilities to taste the wines in a relaxed atmosphere on the estate itself. Since the wine cellar is built around the inner courtyard, you can simultaneously observe the work on the estate and get a feeling for the production process of the noble wine you currently have in your glass. Under the watchful eye of cellar master Kevin Arnold, great wines such as the flagship The Jem, a blend made from several red grape varieties, or Shiraz, named after the cellar master, as well as the Waterford Estate collection are produced here.

A Visit to Waterford is an Experience for all the Senses

The different tastings, including the ‘Wine & Chocolate Experience’, show the character of the different wines and how they treat the palate in combination with chocolate, for example. Multiple chocolate variations created exclusively by chocolate maker Richard von Geusau from a unique symbiosis with Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Waterford's dessert wine.

A visit to the estate that was created by the partnership between the Ord and Arnold families, is an experience that appeals to all the senses. As soon as you enter the Mediterranean courtyard with its fountain – which also adorns the label of the wine bottles – you can smell the fragrance of lemon, lavender and rosemary in the air. Together with the blue sky, this is the perfect environment to enjoy the excellent Waterford wines.
