Lynx - a small boutique winery with a family atmosphere

When the Konen family visited South Africa and in particular Franschhoek two decades ago, it had happened to them - they were enchanted by the magic of the land and the people, were fascinated by the landscape, the culinary delights and the wines. So in 2003, the Konens fulfilled their dream of owning their own winery and founded the Lynx Wine Estate at the foot of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, just a few minutes from Franschhoek. In front of a picturesque backdrop and in a family atmosphere, visitors can taste the expressive wines that reflect their unique terroir.

Lynx wines offer something for every taste

The small team around Winemaker Pierre Louw produces unmistakable wines with great passion, craftsmanship and traditional cellar techniques. The fruity red wines have all matured in oak for at least a year and are known for their elegant tannin structure and soft texture. The flagship is the Spirit of Lynx, a classic red wine blend that is only produced in particularly good vintages. The wines of the Reserve Range are produced in small quantities and have a great maturation potential, while the accessible creations of the Lynx Range offer carefree enjoyment. The winery has been successful from the beginning with the wines of the very first vintage 2003. At that time, the Shiraz was awarded with 4.5 out of 5 John Platter Stars and the other wines also regularly receive awards.

Lynx invests in the future

Despite its comparatively young history, Lynx can already look back on a number of successes, but the winery also looks to the future. Nature conservation plays an important role in the production of premium wines. Beehives have been set up on the property to help preserve the species, and the fynbos planted will preserve the vegetation that is so typical of South Africa. As solidarity is high on Lynx´s list of priorities, it is also committed to the social sector by supporting the Franschhoek Hospitality Academy. The volunteer organisation gives young people from the surrounding area the opportunity to receive training in gastronomy and the hotel industry. Speaking of food and accommodation: In 2021 the Lynx Restaurant opened and serves light meals. The guest house opened its doors already in the beginning of 2020 and, with nine rooms of the highest standard, will offer the opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view of the mountains and the great wines for a little longer.
