With its wonderful aroma of dark fruits and hints of dark chocolate and mocha, the Joachim Flick Wicker Nonnberg "Fuchshohl" Spätburgunder GG beguiles the connoisseur's senses. Fine notes of wild strawberries, blackcurrants, plums and dark cherries pamper the palate and make the red wine, which was matured in wooden barrels for 14 months, a fruity taste experience. The Joachim Flick Wicker Nonnberg "Fuchshohl" Spätburgunder GG is the perfect companion to dishes with game, braised beef or goose. Various soft cheeses are also an excellent choice with this red wine. Incidentally, the vines of the full-bodied Joachim Flick Wicker Nonnberg "Fuchshohl" Spätburgunder GG come from the Nonnenweinberg in the Taunus region of the Rheingau, which was first mentioned in the 13th century.

The gateway to the Rheingau - the Joachim Flick winery

Wicker, a town near Frankfurt, the gateway to the Rheingau, is home to the winegrowing industry. The Joachim Flick winery is also at home here - in an old mill, which looks back on a history of over 700 years. Two lions still adorn the gate of the winery and tell of the fact that the Hessian dukes once owned the former street mill. The winemaking tradition in the Flick family also goes back nine generations, but it is only since 1973 that the winery has been in full operation thanks to Joachim Flick. About twenty years later, Reiner Flick took over the winery, which focuses on the two grape varieties Riesling and Pinot Noir. In addition, Grey and White Burgundy as well as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are grown on a vineyard area of about twenty hectares. Orchard meadows and the rural idyll complete the special ambience of the mill. Originality and authenticity are important to the winery, which is a member of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP). Respect for nature and sustainable cultivation without the use of herbicides are therefore part of its philosophy.

The Joachim Flick winery has first-class vineyards

The unique sites - including Wickerer stone and the two monopollages Nonnberg and Queen Victoriaberg - offer the best conditions for multi-layered wines because they are located in the so-called Mainz Basin. About 30 million years ago, there was a freshwater sea at this site, traces of which can still be found in the calcareous soil today. It is to this circumstance that the creations of the Joachim Flick Winery owe their characteristic minerality. The oldest vineyards of the estate are the Nonnberg and Queen Victoriaberg - and the most famous. These are monopollages, which means that the Flick Winery is the only winery that cultivates them. Two unusual historical events entwine themselves around these special vines. For centuries the Nonnberg was owned by the Tiefenthal monastery and the nuns living here also took care of the grape harvest. In memory of this, a unique project was created in 2018 between the winery and the Dernbach sisters, who, as in the past, helped their predecessors with the harvest. The grapes from the Nonnberg vineyard were used to produce a limited edition wine, the proceeds of which went to a children's aid project in Nigeria. Queen Victoriaberg received no heavenly, but royal support, because in 1845 Queen Victoria of England was here for a wine tasting. A few years later, the then owner was allowed to name his vineyard after the Queen. The Riesling of the Victoriaberg is still served in the English royal house.

Regionality is important to Weingut Joachim Flick

Not only kings can visit the Joachim Flick winery, because private parties or company celebrations can be held at the estate. Open-air concerts are held in summer and other winegrowers are invited to special wine tastings to show the whole variety of the region. Regionality is important to the winery - also in its own wine cellar, an impressive cross vault cellar. The wooden barrels in which the estate's excellent wines are aged are made of local Taunus oak. The flagship among the wines is the Wicker Nonnberg "Vier Morgen"; the grapes of this Riesling of strong character come from vines that are over 60 years old. Also the other creations of the Joachim Flick Winery are always a real pleasure to savour.
