Ken Forrester is Mr. Chenin from South Africa
Ken Forrester and his love for the impressive grape variety Chenin Blanc is very unusual. At the eponymous estate, this variety is turned into elegant quality wines with intense fruit notes. It is for a reason that South Africa connoisseurs call the owner ‘Mr Chenin’ and the winery ‘Home of Chenin’. Together with the experienced winemaker Martin Meinert, Ken Forrester creates excellent white wines and red wines with their very own and distinctive style. Particularly the Ken Forrester Meinert Chenin (FMC) is very special and defined by fine honey nuances and the aroma of dried apricots.
The Winery in an Exceptional Terroir in Stellenbosch
The vineyards are located in the heart of South Africa’s famous wine region Stellenbosch, in immediate proximity to the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. Ken Forrester creates elegant and simultaneously easily accessible wines. Besides the skills of the whole team, this is due to the exceptional location and the concomitant fantastic terroir. On the one hand, a nutrient soil that is a mixture of bottomland, clay as well as weathered granite creates a healthy basis. On the other hand, there is a Mediterranean climate defined by warm, dry summers as well as cool and wet winters: perfect for the cultivation of high quality vines. A unique landscape with green vineyards also offers an unmatched panoramic view.
The winery creates three different collections, the Petit Range (impresses with special fruit aromas), the Ken Forrester Range (brings pleasant elegance) and the Icon Range (stands for absolute premium quality) and therefore offers the perfect wine for every taste.
The History of one of the Oldest Wineries in South Africa
The top restaurateur Ken Forrester bought the winery in Stellenbosch at a public auction in 1993. He renovated the ruined Scholtzenhof farm and turned it into one of the most exclusive wineries at the Cape. With dedication and love for detail, Ken Forrester developed the quality wines and simultaneously ensured the preservation of the indigenous flora and fauna. Until today, his handmade and individually created premium wines are part of his philosophy that
are amongst the best in Stellenbosch, if not even South Africa with their deep character and distinctive and unique style.
