Wine enjoyment from Rheinhessen - Johannes Balzhäuser and his premium wines
For more than 280 years, the Balzhäuser winery has been producing premium wines of high quality in the wine world. Above all, son and winemaker Johannes Balzhäuser gives the German wines in the middle of Alsheim, the third-largest wine-growing community in the wine-growing region of Rheinhessen, a very special charm. On 10 hectares of vineyards, the winemaker mainly cultivates the grape varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Portugieser and Cabernet Sauvignon. The best conditions are provided by the Mediterranean and mostly dry climate in Rheinhessen as well as the loess and limestone soils, which give the red wines and white wines a fine minerality. Several vineyards are located at the Rhine terraces and are oriented towards the south, so that the vines receive particularly intense sunlight. The flagship wine "Kälbchen Riesling" presents itself from the hand-harvested and best Riesling sites of Alsheim.
Wines from Johannes Balzhäuser represent quality and innovation
The wines of Johannes Balzhäuser follow a straight line, represent uncomplicated drinking pleasure and also convince with a modern and appealing design. The winery's classic line also comes from the vineyards and benefits from modern and traditional cellar technology. The Balzhäuser winery has been in existence since 1732 and can therefore draw on an enormous and deep knowledge of wine, which benefits the wines today. Biological acid reduction, mash fermentation and controlled storage in wooden barrels lead to velvety and full-bodied red wines. Johannes Balzhäuser's white wines convince with fruity freshness and profit from a gentle and temperature-controlled fermentation. The Chardonnay, for example, proves to be particularly juicy and delicately melting on the palate and convinces with aromas of melon and banana. The premium line of the German winery specialises in old vines of the Riesling, Silvaner and Burgundy varieties. Although the yields are few, they are extremely precious and ensure a unique taste experience. Through fermentation in old wooden barrels and a cold and delayed ageing, the wines achieve above-average aromas and a sophisticated bouquet.
Johannes Balzhäuser "A good wine does not need to be explained - it simply pleases"
For about four years now, the young winemaker has been bringing a lot of energy and new strategies to the traditional winery. With a Master's degree in agricultural sciences and practical experience from stays on the Mosel in Luxembourg and in the Macedon Ranges in Victoria in Australia, he develops unique German top wines from contemporary technology and respect for nature. The interplay of soil, climate and the philosophy of making each vintage better than the last does the ninth generation winery honour and promises absolute quality wines.
