Backsberg’s philosophy is to create South Africa premium wines which unite pleasure and enjoyment to a broad range of wine lovers. The aim is simply: Backsberg produce seamless wines with structure and finesse that are pleasurable and easy to drink.

Backsberg is more than just a winery

Over the years Backsberg has achieved many accolades for its wines. As one of the first South African wineries to open its cellar to the public, Backsberg has been welcoming guests for decades. Experiences on offer include picnics, cellar tours, cheese and chocolate pairings, a restaurant showcasing South African cuisine and Sunday lamb-on-the-spit – of course always with a delicious premium wine from Backsberg in the glass.

Backsberg is dedicated to sustainability

Backsberg is committed to sustainable wine production. As South Africa’s first certified carbon neutral winery, Backsberg has received multiple accolades for its forward-thinking, holistic practices. Initiatives include tree planting, bottling in lightweight glass bottles that take less energy to manufacture and transport and reducing energy use at the winery. Additionally, Backsberg has set aside a portion of its land for conservation and holds the status of World Wildlife Foundation Conservation Champion.
